Hello World
I am Shubham Gupta,a first year student of Computer Science (Dual) at IIT-KGP.I started blogging mainly because there are several issues on which I feel the need to express my views,besides sharing my experiences.I find FB quite un-suited for that and I haven't started micro-blogging yet.
As for the name of of the blog I had 3 options in my head,'Renaissance','Long Live Life','Life is for Living'.I will explain why I chose Renaissance.
Renaissance was a period of political and cultural awakening in the Europe after the Crusades.It was a time when poets freely expressed themselves &people dared to think differently than what the Church prescribed to them.In many ways it was the beginning of the Modern Age of Science,Reason And Logic.Also Europe's fundamental contributions to maths and all sciences subsequently can be attributed to the free flowing ideas and imaginations that run wildly at that time.
I remember studying 'Renaissance' as a unit in Class-6 History Unit.It was the first chapter and i still remember vividly that it amazed me and made History one of my favorite subjects(unlike any of my friends)
'Long Live Life' translates to 'Viva la Vida' in French.I thought it was a good title but rejected it later as it wouldn' be appropriate with most of the posts.
'Life is for living' is a song by Coldplay in their debut album "Parachutes".Though it is an obvious title but the truth is that only a few of us actually live life.Most of us are engrossed in its petty issues and seldom seem to be enjoying life.
What worked in favour of renaissance was the fact that it is a single word plus it represents hopefulness of a time when there would be new things to be learned and discovered and enjoyed.Every new fun-filled experience or a new thing learned can be associated with the word 'Renaissance'
And hence the name.
